The Igbo Community in North Carolina is set to host their bi-annual event, "IGBO DAY," on June 14th, 2025. The Organizing Communication Committee's Chairperson, Chief Mrs. Felicia Chika Harrison, states that the festival will bring together all the Igbo-born natives, those married to Igbo persons, and through naturalization, or adoption, residing in North Carolina.
The festival aims to:
- Foster the learning and use of the Igbo language among children.
- Enhance cultural awareness and encourage intermarriage among the Igbo youth.
IGBO DAY is rooted in the memory of the pogrom on September 29, 1966, which resulted in the loss of over 30,000 Igbo lives in Northern Nigeria.
As the prominent ethnic group in Nigeria, the Igbo community in North Carolina is committed to upholding their rich cultural heritage.
